Neonatal Practice Specialist

Neonatal Practice Specialists Our team of Neonatal Practice Specialists at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital includes both Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. In our busy Level IV NICU, we manage our own team of patients in collaboration with the neonatologists and fellows. We have all subspecialty support services available to us. We are expected to assess and diagnose our patients and formulate their daily management plans and follow up evaluations. We provide patient management 24/7 in the NICU and attend all high risk deliveries.

In addition, UNM is home to the New Mexico Newborn Transport Team and provides the only advanced practice team for neonates in New Mexico. The NNP’s and PA’s provide mobile NICU transport services throughout New Mexico and surrounding states via ground ambulance and fixed wing medical evacuation aircraft.

We have many opportunities to participate in research, resident education, outreach education as well as quality improvement projects.

Minimum Requirements:
  • MSN – Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or MS – Physician Assistant
  • New graduates welcome to apply
  • Certificate NNP’s welcome to apply if candidate can meet NM licensing requirements
  • National certification as an NNP or PA
  • Eligible to acquire certification for new graduates
Preferred Qualifications:
